Meet Brenda Wilkins

Hello,

I’m Brenda. It’s nice to meet you. I thought we might spend a little time together to chat, and get acquainted. Please, make yourself comfortable. Go ahead and grab a cup of coffee, a spot of tea, or whatever you like to have when visiting with a friend … I’ll wait.

Now, let me tell you a little about myself, and why I’m here. Perhaps in the comment section, you can tell me about yourself as well.

I’m a writer – it took me a long time to be able to say that without feeling pretentious. At this point in my career, I haven’t been published, but that’s coming.

As a matter of fact, I’ve just finished my debut novel, Universal Justice … Thank you for your warm congratulations. I appreciate your support. I am rather proud of the accomplishment.

Universal Justice is the story of a man wrongly executed for a crime he did not commit; and the struggle his ex-fiancé faces as she works ardently to prove his innocence, and posthumously, clear his name.

The idea for this story came to me over twenty years ago. I was contemplating how the Universe works things out for us, even though we may not be around to see the result. My BETA readers have compared it to a John Grisham novel. I hope you will enjoy reading it one day soon.

I’ve always enjoyed writing. I remember winning an essay contest in elementary school, in Brooklyn, NY. I was shocked that out of the entire fourth grade, my essay was chosen as the winner. I was very proud.

Before now, I’d only done informal writing – speeches for special occasions for friends and family. I contributed to a few newsletters and had a couple of poems published in anthologies.

Even when I attended college at Mercer University in Macon, GA, I didn’t consider writing as a career; at a time when investigative journalism was a big thing.

After college, I left the east coast and headed to sunny Fort Worth, TX. That was in 1981, and I’ve been here ever since.

I’ve worked for various companies over the years, in both retail and clerical positions, until the end of 2021 when I decided to retire, and write full time. It’s been over three years, and not once have I regretted my decision.

During our short visits, once a week, if that works for you, I’d like to talk informally about a range of topics. Sometimes about writing, sometimes about family, and friendship, and sometimes just about life in general. I promise I won’t take up much of your time.

I may share a poem or short story with you now and then. I hope you won’t mind. Your feedback is always welcome and encouraged.

Well, I’ve really enjoyed our time together. I hope that you will stop by again next week and we can chat a little more. I look forward to it. Until then, take care and live well.

Your friend,

Brenda
