Tick tock, tick tock. The clock ticks away the seconds, minutes, and hours of the day. While the calendar chips away at the weeks, months, and years of our lives. You wake to a new day that seems deceptively identical to the one before. You go through your daily routine as usual.
Time Equals Change
Then, one day you wake up to find it a little more difficult to get out of bed. At the mirror, much to your surprise, you see a head filled with gray hairs.
After a routine doctor’s appointment, you learn that you’re a mess. You have high blood pressure, diabetes, gout, and your bad cholesterol level is off the charts. When did all this happen? You were there just six months ago, and none of this was a problem.
The truth is, change often shows up in the smallest places first. In the way your knees protest when you climb the stairs. In the way your favorite shirt doesn’t fit quite the same. In the way the mirror becomes a messenger, revealing what your mind hasn’t yet accepted.
You think you’re staying the same—same job, same habits, same routines—but time has been rearranging things behind the scenes. Even your priorities have been quietly evolving. Change doesn’t ask permission. It simply arrives.
Wisdom of the Ages
The older generation says to the next, “I know what you’re going through. I’ve been there.” The steady rhythm of change is the source of that wisdom. Time passes it along from one generation to the next…like clockwork. Even our ancient sages and prophets have tried to enlighten us to the fact that there is nothing new under the sun. What feels new to us is often just the latest version of what others have already lived. Which is why, in the end, the more things change, the more they remain the same.
